留学してから気づくこと！

留学すると英語を習得するには、意外と時間がかかる事と視野が広がり自国の文化を知るよいきっかけになることに気づきます。先日の我が家でのパーテイでの出来事。Able Japanの留学中の大学生達は、カナダ人に日本の歴史にゆかりのあるThomas Glover について聞かれたらみんな電球を発明したThomas Edisonを思い浮かべていました。　当然、話はかみ合いませんでしたが（笑）彼らが日本の歴史を知るきっかけになりました。

We admit that mastering a second language takes longer than anticipated and provides us with exposure to a different culture. Experience of studying abroad also helps us broaden our horizons. At a recent party in my home Able Japan students were asked about Thomas Glover’s role in history. They confused Thomas Glover with Thomas Edison, the famous inventor of electric light. The students joked that Glover was well before their time. This sort of social exchanges will expand the literacy of students studying English abroad.
